Jason Gast has lived in Western North Carolina since early 1996. He graduated from the University of Tennessee College of Law in 2005 and received his North Carolina law license that same year. He soon began representing a wide variety of clients in Buncombe, Madison, and Yancey counties, along with occasional work in other surrounding counties. In 2008, Jason began serving as the juvenile defender for Yancey County.

Before beginnning his legal career, Jason contributed a great deal of time and effort doing community service in Buncombe County. Jason worked with Mountain Housing Opportunities as an AmeriCorps member and later as a volunteer, performing emergency home repairs. Jason also worked as a Loaned Employee with the Asheville-Buncombe County chapter of the United Way during the difficult post-September 11th period. Working with those two groups inspired Jason to want to help people by establishing his own law practice. Jason is proud to have worked at both places, and feels that his community experience has made him a better person and a better lawyer.  

Jason continues to regularly engage in volunteer work outside his practice.  He currently contributes his time to Pisgah Legal Services as a volunteer lawyer, as well as to various environmental groups such as the Dogwood Alliance.
